CFL Team That Hired Art Briles: We Worked Out Johnny Manziel, But "Too Many Red Flags"
Photo Credit: Peter Aiken/ [object Object] The Hamilton Tiger-Cats—recently in the news for hiring disgraced former Baylor coach Art Briles before announcing less than 24 hours later that they would actually —reportedly worked out former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel last week before deciding not to pursue him on the basis of “too many red flags.”
According to TSN, the team had Manziel work out for them over two days during their bye week last week. Manziel, 24, last played professionally in 2015.
Manziel was charged with domestic violence last year for allegedly hitting his girlfriend and threatening to kill her; charges were dropped several months later after a plea deal. He also has a history of partying and drug use that repeatedly threatened his career. But if overseeing a football program where players were accused of up to 52 rapes in four years isn’t a “red flag,” really, what is?
