Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a broken right index finger on his throwing hand, the team announced Tuesday.
Easton Stick will be under center for the Chargers (5-8), beginning with Thursday night's game against the host Las Vegas Raiders (5-8).
Herbert, 25, left Sunday's game in the second quarter after throwing an incomplete pass on fourth-and-2 at the Denver Broncos' 29-yard line. The Chargers initially ruled him questionable to return before determining he couldn't continue.
Herbert was just 9-of-17 passing for 96 yards and an interception before exiting. Stick went on to complete 13 of 24 passes for 179 yards.
Herbert fractured a finger on his left hand in Week 4 and hasn't missed a start. He has thrown for 3,134 yards with 20 touchdowns and seven picks in 13 games this season.
Herbert is 30-32 as a starter since being drafted with the No. 6 overall pick in 2020. He has completed 66.6 percent of his passes for 17,223 yards with 114 touchdowns and 42 interceptions. He was the 2020 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and made the Pro Bowl in 2021.
