Charlotte FC signed French forward Allan Saint-Maximin to a designated player contract on Monday.

Saint-Maximin, 29, will also occupy an international roster slot and is signed through the 2028-29 season.

He most recently helped Ligue 1 side RC Lens win its first Coupe de France title after his stints with Club America in Liga MX, Al-Ahli of the Saudi Pro League and Fenerbahce in the Turkish Super League.

Saint-Maximin's longest professional spell was with the Premier League's Newcastle United, where he tallied 13 goals and 21 assists in 124 appearances from 2019-23.

"Maxi is an elite attacking talent who has consistently performed at the highest levels of our sport, including in the Premier League. We're delighted to bring a player of his quality to Charlotte while he is in the prime of his career," Charlotte general manager Zoran Krneta said.

"His creativity, speed, technical ability and flair make him immediately one of the most exciting players in Major League Soccer. Adding a player with his pedigree, experience and winning mentality will bolster our attacking options and strengthen the team overall. We are excited to welcome he and his family to Charlotte."

Charlotte returns from the FIFA World Cup break to host Atlanta United on July 22.
