Cherundolo's Goal Is the Difference In Johannesburg
The US Men's National Team earned a victory over South Africa this morning (at least it was this morning here, I think it was tomorrow there). A 27th minute goal scored off of a Steve Cherundolo run was all the US needed to hold off an attacking opponent. The 28 year-old defender was probably the last person viewers were keying on, especially with Freddy Adu starting and phenom striker Jozy Altidore set to earn his first cap (he entered as a substitute for Clint Dempsey in the second half). After one year the Bob Bradley era is going swimmingly, of course things will heat up this summer when they begin their attempt to qualify for the 2010 World Cup (which happens to be in South Africa).
• Yalla Yisrael!. Omer Golan stayed onside while corralling a through ball in the second minute of injury time to give Israel a huge 2-1 victory over Russia in Group E of Euro 2008 qualifying. Israel's win means that England can control their own destiny within the group despite playing like absolute shite throughout the process. Russia's pretty much screwed now. I wouldn't want to be one of those goofy dolls on Putin's coffee table right now.
• Goooooool! x7.Real Madrid defeated Mallorca in thrilling fashion today in La Liga. Robinho, one of the world's most dazzling talents, scored two goals himself in the first half only to be equaled by Guillermo Pereyra. Raul added a goal in the second half and Ruud van Nistelrooy put the The Whites ahead for good slipping a ball past the keeper in the 72nd minute. Even the Gamecast is entertaining.
