Other than a couple of seasons as an assistant coach at a Texas high school, this is the first coaching job for the 48-year-old Louisville native.
"Chris Redman is the perfect choice to be the head coach of the Louisville Kings," UFL co-owner Mike Repole said in a news release. "A native son of Louisville, Chris represents the heart and soul of the city. He will pair that passion with elite leadership at every level to build a championship culture for the Kings."
A member of the Louisville Cardinals Ring of Honor, Redman threw for 12,541 yards and 84 touchdowns across four seasons on campus from 1996-99. He won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award as a senior.
"I am incredibly grateful and excited for the opportunity to represent the new Louisville Kings," Redman said. "Louisville is home. I've been fortunate to have so many people support me throughout my career and I know they'll be behind me and the Kings as we work to bring a championship to this city. I am ready to get started building a team and coaching staff with championship-level experience. We're going to make Louisville proud."
Selected in the third round of the 2000 NFL Draft by Baltimore, Redman compiled a 4-8 record with 3,179 passing yards, 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 30 games with the Ravens (2000, 2002-03) and Atlanta Falcons (2007, 2009-11). He won a Super Bowl ring with Baltimore during his rookie year.
