The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football in Week 8. Both teams have seen mixed results throughout the 2025 season. Kansas City enters this game with a 4-3 record, while Washington owns a 3-4 record.

The Chiefs are finally starting to get healthy, and their offense looks outstanding. They rank 12th in the NFL in points (.410) per play, and that number jumps to .441 over their last three games. They’ve scored 28+ points in four consecutive games, and they’re averaging 31.5 points per game over that span.

The Commanders haven’t found much defensive success in 2025. They rank 20th in the league in points allowed (.389) per play this season. Overall, Washington’s giving up 24.3 points per game in 2025.

Although Kansas City has gotten some of their key pieces back recently, the injuries to their offensive line are a concern. Trey Smith is listed as doubtful, while Josh Simmons has been ruled out. Generally, this would be a major concern, but the Chiefs' backups have performed well when needed, and I believe they’ll find success as stand-ins for this game.

The other key for their offense is that Washington hasn’t generated a ton of pressure on opposing quarterbacks this season. They blitz at a higher-than-average rate, but they’re a relatively average defense in terms of pressure.

Even with the injuries to two key linemen, I expect Kansas City to give Patrick Mahomes enough time in the pocket to find success throughout this game.

On the other side, Jayden Daniels has been ruled out, leaving Marcus Mariota to draw the start. Washington’s found plenty of offensive success this season, regardless of who their quarterback has been. In two games with Mariota starting, the Commanders are averaging 34 points per game.

The Chiefs have performed well defensively this season, ranking eighth in the NFL in points allowed (.334) per game. We’ve seen them dominate some top offenses, but they’ve also given up 27 and 31 points against the Los Angeles Chargers and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Similar to Kansas City, Washington is getting healthier at their skill positions. Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel will return to the lineup, which will give them a major boost.

I expect the Chiefs to do the heavy lifting for this total, but the Commanders have proven that they can find success with Mariota at quarterback. This total is a bit low for how quickly these offenses can score.
