Mandatory Credit: Kyle Ross-Imagn Images The Philadelphia Union, already with an overwhelming advantage from the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions Cup opening-round series, added three goals in the first 12 minutes of the second leg and cruised to a 7-0 win over Defence Force on Thursday in Chester, Pa.
Stas Korzeniowski and 16-year-old Cavan Sullivan each scored twice in the second leg as the Union closed the set with a 12-0 aggregate victory, earning a berth in the Round of 16 against Mexico's Club America. Philadelphia captured the first leg 5-0 on Feb. 18 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
Sullivan, 16, became the youngest U.S. player ever to score in a CONCACAF Champions Cup match.
The opening goal of the rematch came in the seventh minute. Off a Union corner kick, Jovan Lukic had his shot blocked, but the ball fell to Geiner Martinez, whose left-footed attempt went inside the far post from 12 yards out.
Lukic made it 2-0 with a penalty kick in the 10th minute, and two minutes later Korzeniowski completed an impressive team buildup by Philadelphia for a 3-0 edge.
Korzeniowski (48th minute), Ben Bender (53rd minute) and Sullivan (76th and 88th minutes) tacked on second-half goals.
