Mandatory Credit: Perry Nelson-Imagn Images Connor McDavid claimed another slot in the NHL record book and goaltender Tristan Jarry collected his first shutout of the season as the host Edmonton Oilers beat the Calgary Flames 4-0 on Wednesday.
Mathieu Joseph, Mattias Ekholm, Kasperi Kapanen and Alex Formenton tallied for the Oilers, who jumped back into the top spot in the Western Conference.
McDavid set an NHL record by collecting at least one assist in a 13th consecutive game to start a season. He set up a pair of tallies. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also carded two assists.
Jarry made 24 saves to record his 24th career shutout.
Calgary starting goalie Devin Cooley left the game after the first period due to a lower-body injury suffered when Edmonton forward Colton Dach crashed into him. Cooley stopped eight of nine shots he faced.
Dustin Wolf made 20 saves in relief.
The Flames had their winning streak snapped at four games.
Calgary had the edge in the early going, but Joseph opened the scoring with Edmonton's first shot at 7:46. Joseph zipped to the net and received a pinpoint cross-ice feed from McDavid to deposit.
Ekholm, who returned to the lineup after missing the previous couple of games, doubled the Edmonton lead at 4:52 of the second period. Nugent-Hopkins cleanly won an offensive-zone face-off to Ekholm at the point, and his seeing-eye shot made it through the screen and into the cage.
Kapanen extended the Edmonton edge to 3-0 by redirecting McDavid's pass across the crease for the power-play marker 55 seconds into the third period.
McDavid has collected 36 points (eight goals, 28 assists) in his 13-game point streak to start the campaign.
Formenton made it a four-goal game 21 seconds later to round out the scoring.
The Flames also saw forward Brennan Othmann leave the game after the first period. Othmann was without his helmet when he hit the ice at the conclusion of a fight with Ty Emberson.
