Denver Mayor Doesn't Know CSU Coach's Name; CSU Coach Gets All Sad
Despite the fact that the University of Colorado and Colorado State University both have garbage-ass football programs, the two schools like to make a very big deal out of their annual early-season meeting, which is dubbed "The Rocky Mountain Showdown" and played in the Broncos' stadium. So of course Denver Mayor Michael Hancock was on hand at this year's "showdown," which took place last Friday, to bestow a trophy upon the winning team. Things got really awkward.
With the victorious CSU Rams gathered around him and head coach Jim McElwain eagerly awaiting the trophy, Hancock adressed the stadium and proceeded to call McElwain "Coach McIntyre," at which point McElwain grabbed the mic and huffily corrected the Hancock.
McElwain continued to be upset about the situation during a press conference on Monday, a portion of which you can see at the end of the video above. "Boy that makes a guy feel good—guy giving you the trophy and he can't spit your name out. Shows you how much they care about Colorado State, right?" are the words of a man who has caught some serious feelings.
And to be fair to Mayor Hancock, nobody gives a shit about Colorado State.
