Mandatory Credit: John Jones-Imagn Images New Jersey Devils defenseman Dougie Hamilton will be sidelined at least one week with a lower-body injury, head coach Sheldon Keefe said Saturday.
Hamilton was injured in the second period of New Jersey's 4-3 overtime victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.
"Minor injury, it will be probably a minimum of a week for him, and then from that point it will just be a matter of how he's feeling in terms of when he will come back," Keefe said.
It's the second notable hit to the Devils' blue line, with Brett Pesce sidelined for at least a month with an upper-body injury sustained on Oct. 26.
Colton White will draw into the lineup in place of Hamilton on Saturday when the Devils host the Pittsburgh Penguins in Newark, N.J.
Hamilton, 32, has seven points (four goals, three assists) in 14 games this season while competing in the fifth campaign of his seven-year, $63 million contract.
He has totaled 508 points (155 goals, 353 assists) in 849 career games with the Boston Bruins, Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes and Devils. He was selected by the Bruins with the ninth overall pick of the 2011 NHL Draft.
