Djordje Mihailovic scores 5th goal, but Rapids and Sounders settle for draw

Downing-Imagn Images Djordje Mihailovic scored his team lead-tying fifth goal of the season on a free kick early in the second half, and the Colorado Rapids earned a rare result against the visiting Seattle Sounders with a 1-1 draw on Saturday night.
Mihailovic's tally helped the Rapids (4-2-4, 16 points) extend an unbeaten run to three matches and earn a point against the Sounders (3-3-4, 13 points) for only the second time in six attempts.
But Colorado fell just short of its first league victory over Seattle since 2022, with Rafael Navarro seeing a late goal disallowed for a foul and Stefan Frei making an excellent stop to deny Kevin Cabral in second-half stoppage time.
Danny Musovski scored for a third straight match just before halftime for the Sounders, who are also unbeaten in three games but fell short of a third straight win.
Jordan Morris came on for Musovski at halftime, then left shortly before full time when he appeared to reaggravate a hamstring injury.
Frei finished with two saves, as did Colorado's Nicolas Hansen in his MLS debut, in place of suspended starter Zack Steffen.
After a strong first-half performance from Seattle, Colorado carried the game in the second half and needed only nine minutes to pull level.
Oliver Larraz earned the opportunity when he induced Yeimar Gomez into a foul a few yards beyond the penalty area.
Mihailovic eyed the free kick opportunity and decided to take a chance by driving a low shot at Seattle's defensive wall. That wall jumped, and sure enough Mihailovic's strike rolled underneath and into the bottom left corner, leaving Frei little chance.
Navarro thought he had recorded his sixth goal of the season when he beat Frei with a header of Cabral's cross into the top left corner. But referee Alexis Da Silva indicated Navarro had pushed Gomez to win the header and waved off the goal.
Then Cabral had his own chance through the air in the dying moments, but this time Frei sprawled to his right to make an exceptional denial before tumbling into his own net.
