Dodgers OF Jason Heyward (back) has setback in recovery
Los Angeles Dodgers veteran outfielder Jason Heyward had a setback in his recovery from a lower back injury that has cost him most of the season, manager Dave Roberts said, and his return date remains unknown.
Heyward, 34, has played just four games this season and none since March 30 as he returned to the Dodgers this season on a second one-year contract. He had three hits in 14 at-bats before going on the injured list.
In 15 major league seasons with the Atlanta Braves (2010-14), St. Louis Cardinals (2015), Chicago Cubs (2016-22) and Dodgers, Heyward is a career .258 hitter with 174 home runs and 683 RBIs. His 15 home runs for Los Angeles last season matched his total from the previous three seasons combined.
The Dodgers have been getting limited production from outfielders Chris Taylor and James Outman, but since making his major league debut April 16, rookie Andy Pages is batting .298 with two home runs and eight RBIs in 12 games. Pages has played both right and center field.
