In a corresponding move, the Dolphins released rookie offensive lineman Alama Uluave, 24, from the practice squad.
Ingram, 34, started three games for Miami and had 22 tackles, including seven tackles for loss and six sacks. He also forced one fumble and recovered two.
He can help as an edge rusher for the Miami defense, which lost outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips when he tore his Achilles on Nov. 24 against the New York Jets. The Dolphins are starting Andrew Van Ginkel and signed veteran defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul to the active roster after Phillips' season-ending injury.
Ingram went to the Pro Bowl in 2017-19 while with the Chargers, who had selected him 18th overall in the 2012 NFL Draft out of South Carolina.
He has played for the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers (2012-20), Pittsburgh Steelers (2021) Kansas City Chiefs (2021) and Dolphins (2022). In 145 career games (106 starts), Ingram has 407 tackles, 81 TFL, 57 sacks, three interceptions, 16 forced fumbles and nine fumble recoveries — returning two for touchdowns.
