Dynamic offense meets solid defense when Stamps visit Ti-Cats

The Calgary Stampeders bring their high-octane offense to Hamilton to face the stingy Tiger-Cats on Saturday afternoon.

The Stampeders (3-4) average a league-best 39.7 points per game, led by star quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. and running back Dedrick Mills.

Adams, 33, threw for 319 yards and three touchdowns in Calgary's 52-30 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last Friday. He has thrown for a CFL-best 20 touchdown passes without an interception, while Mills has rushed for 584 yards, second-most in the league.

Tyreik McAllister became the first player in CFL history to record a rushing touchdown, a receiving score and a kick return for a touchdown in a single game.

"We got the win -- we played three-phase football," Adams told Stamps TV. "We got a score on special teams, scored on offense and got a few interceptions. So it just felt good to play a complete game like that.

"We do want to finish better at the end as an offense, especially when our defense is putting us in good field position. But we'll work on it."

Keeping Adams, Mills and McAllister in check will be the responsibility of the Tiger-Cats (3-4), who have yielded 27.1 points per game to become the No. 2 scoring defense in the CFL.

Hamilton, however, allowed 14 points in the fourth quarter en route to dropping a 31-18 decision to the Montreal Alouettes last week.

The defense isn't the issue in the eyes of Tiger-Cats head coach Scott Milanovich, however.

"We gotta play better offensively," Milanovich said of his club, which has averaged 15.5 points over its last four games. "It's my responsibility. We didn't run the ball well, we didn't protect well, we didn't throw it well. And whatever we scored, 10 points offensively, it ain't good enough."

Tre Ford completed 15 of 23 passes for 164 yards with one touchdown and one interception versus the Alouettes. He's still trying to light a spark with his team after fellow quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell broke his ankle in the third quarter against Winnipeg on July 5.
