Mandatory Credit: Jim Rassol-Imagn Images England ruled out defender Tino Livramento with a calf injury on Tuesday, one day before opening the World Cup against Croatia in Arlington, Texas.
The 23-year-old Newcastle United full-back sustained the injury during training on Sunday at the Three Lions' base camp in Kansas City, Mo. ESPN reported that Livramento will be sidelined for six weeks, effectively knocking him out of the tournament.
England replaced Livramento with Chelsea center-back Trevoh Chalobah, as "FIFA regulations allow participating teams to replace an outfield player up to 24 hours before their opening fixture," according to a statement from the English Football Association.
Livramento was just getting back into form after missing the last two months of the Premier League season with a thigh injury. He played the second half of England's 1-0 friendly win against New Zealand on June 6 but sat out their second World Cup tune-up against Costa Rica on June 10.
Livramento has five caps with England since 2024, which is four more than Chalobah. Chalobah, 26, made his senior-side debut in a 3-1 loss to Senegal on June 10, 2025.
Chalobah made 34 Premier League appearances for Chelsea this season and contributed three goals.
World No. 4 England's other Group L matches are against Ghana on June 23 in Foxborough, Mass., and against Panama on June 27 in East Rutherford, N.J.
