Jaden Smith's Bonkers New Song Will Change Your Life
Attention, everyone: Last night, Jaden Smith changed the game. Imagine if someone took the things Jaden Smith says on Twitter and put them over some solid, this-means-something beats, because that's what "Blue Ocean" is. It's an Experience.
Smith was clearly inspired by a few artists while putting this surprisingly well-produced track together. The distorted voices, including one that not-so-subtly shouts, "I HATE MYSELF," belong in My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy; the part about meeting girls at Coachella are in the vein of Childish Gambino and Frank Ocean and every other artist who mopes about heartbreak at festivals. The transitions and reverse effects are reminiscent of Jay Electronica's "The Pledge," though who knows if Smith has ever heard it. Maybe every part of this song was inserted into Smith's mind through a crystal mirror or some shit.
And so, Smith sings, raps, shouts, and ponders, mostly about girls. (Maybe one of them's Kylie Jenner.) He finishes strong: "Everybody Knows I'm A Ghost But I Can Still Dream." What does that mean? Something.
