Pryor To Saskatchewan: Drop Dead
Yesterday we brought you word that the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders, employers of one Chris Leak, had acquired negotiating rights to Columbus-area sports memorabilia dealer Terrelle Pryor. Today, Canada heard the bad news: Pryor is apparently not down with three downs.
Here's ESPN's wire copy:
Terrelle Pryor is not interested in playing in the Canadian Football League and is focused on the opportunity to be included in the NFL's supplemental draft, Larry James, his attorney, said Thursday.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders own the CFL negotiating rights to Pryor and had extended him a tentative offer.
"They sent the package last night, I forwarded it to Terrelle and Terrelle said that he wasn't interested today," James said.
Asked if Pryor gave him a reason for his lack of interest in the Roughriders, James said: "He did not go into discussion. He just said he's not interested in the Canadian Football League. Obviously the offer was not sufficient to whet his taste buds."
We noted yesterday that Pryor's attorney makes everything sound unnecessarily sinister, that Terrelle's contracts would be signed on checkered tablecloths in smoky, wood-paneled rooms. So we're delighted to read him saying something about whetting taste buds when simply denying Pryor's interest would suffice.
Otherwise, though, this can't come as much of a surprise: Pryor wants the NFL. And so you have Cam Newton's former QB coach, George Whitfield, out there beating the drum. He says they're comparable prospects. Sure. But having quick legs and a so-so arm does not quite equate to identical, you know.
In any event, looks like Pryor's aiming for the Supplemental Draft, if it happens, meaning Chris Leak can sleep tight, for now.
