Ex-Phillies to manage Futures Game during All-Star week

Two former Phillies, both World Series winners, will manage the next generation of MLB players in the Futures Game in Philadelphia on July 12 as part of the festivities leading up to the All-Star Game.

Shane Victorino will manage the National League Futures team while Larry Bowa will lead the American League squad.

Victorino, known as "The Flyin' Hawaiian," won four Gold Gloves as a center fielder for Philadelphia, and he was part of the club's 2008 World Series-winning team. Now 45, he won another title with the Boston Red Sox in 2013.

The 80-year-old Bowa has been a part of the Phillies organization for nearly 40 years. Now the senior adviser to baseball operations for Philadelphia, he was the shortstop on the team that won the World Series in 1980. He was named to five National League All-Star teams and won two Gold Gloves.


Bowa managed the San Diego Padres in the 1987-88 seasons, the led the Phillies to a 337-308 record from 2001-04.

Current major leaguers Carter Jensen (Kansas City Royals), Kevin McGonigle (Detroit Tigers), Braden Montgomery (Chicago White Sox) and JJ Wetherholt (St. Louis Cardinals) are among the players who were on the 2025 rosters of the Futures Game.

The remainder of the coaching staff will be announced at a later date.

Game time is noon ET.
