Ezequiel Duran powers Rangers past Brewers to avoid sweep

Ezequiel Duran hit a solo homer and doubled in two runs as the visiting Texas Rangers beat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-4 on Sunday to avoid a series sweep.

Joc Pederson added a solo homer, and Cody Freeman and Elias Diaz each had two hits and an RBI for Texas, which snapped a four-game losing streak.

Tyler Alexander (5-2), one of five Texas relievers, pitched two scoreless innings for the victory in the finale of the three-game set. Jacob Latz retired the Brewers in order in the ninth for his 27th save.

Gary Sanchez hit a two-run homer and Joey Ortiz had two hits for Milwaukee, which had its four-game winning streak come to an end.

Milwaukee took a 2-0 lead in the first inning against Kumar Rocker. Brice Turang drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on Garrett Mitchell's single before Jake Bauers and Jackson Chourio each singled in a run.

Texas answered with two outs in the second inning against Dustin May (6-9) when a run scored on back-to-back doubles by Freeman and Diaz.

Duran tied the game with a two-out solo homer in the third inning. The 410-foot shot was his 15th homer of the season.

Rocker was replaced by Alexander after giving up two runs on four hits over three innings.

May walked the first two batters in the fifth inning and both runners advanced on a groundout. Duran followed by giving the Rangers their first lead of the game by driving in two runs with a ground-rule double.

Grant Anderson replaced May and avoided any further damage by retiring the next two batters.

May gave up four runs on six hits over 4 1/3 innings. He walked three and struck out four.

Pederson extended the Rangers' lead to 5-2 with two outs in the sixth inning by depositing Anderson's 1-0 fastball over the right field wall for his 24th homer of the season.

Texas added two runs in the seventh on three hits. With runners on the corners and one out, Brandon Nimmo scored on Jake Burger's infield single.

After Bryse Wilson replaced Anderson with two runners on, Evan Carter flied out before another run scored on Freeman's single to right field.

Milwaukee cut into the deficit with two outs in the seventh on Sanchez's 200th career homer, a two-run blast against Jordan Montgomery.
