Falcons OT Jake Matthews (ankle) day-to-day
NFL Atlanta Falcons offensive tackle Jake Matthews Atlanta Falcons coach Raheem Morris said on Tuesday that starting left tackle Jake Matthews is day-to-day with a left ankle injury.
Matthews hurt the ankle in the third quarter of the Falcons' 24-14 home win over the Buffalo Bills on Monday night. The 33-year-old was replaced by second-year lineman Michael Jerrell for the remainder of the game.
"We know who (Matthews) is," Morris said in reference to the lineman's durability. "We know that he doesn't miss something. We'll just have to see. But I feel really positive about him and what happened based on not having any idea last night."
Matthews has started all 184 regular-season and all five playoff games he has played. The Falcons selected Matthews with the sixth overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2018.
Atlanta acquired Jerrell from Seattle on Aug. 26 for a conditional seventh-round 2027 draft pick. Jerrell, 26, a sixth-round pick by the Seahawks in 2024, played in 10 games last season and started three.
The Falcons (3-2) visit the San Francisco 49ers (4-2) on Sunday night.
