Mandatory Credit: Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports FC Dallas fired coach Nico Estevez on Sunday, promoting assistant coach Peter Luccin to the top job on an interim basis.
Estevez, 44, had coached the club since 2022 and compiled a 28-27-29 regular-season record. The club drew 1-1 with Minnesota United on Saturday to fall to 3-8-5 (14 points), tied for 12th in the 14-team Western Conference.
"It is always a difficult decision to part ways with your head coach," FC Dallas president Dan Hunt said in a statement. "A great deal of thought and deliberation went into this move as it is still early in the season. We believe a coaching change is in the best interest of the club. I want to thank Nico for everything he has done for the club, including some great playoff memories."
Dallas made the playoffs in each of Estevez's first two seasons. After a conference semifinal berth in 2022, the Toros did not get out of the first round last year.
