Five Tiny Tidbits On: The Pacific-10 Conference
This image was lost some time after publication. Thought we were done previewing things? How could you think that, with your NCAA Basketball Tournament office pool a mere five months away? You've got to start studying now if you want to beat that chick in the mail room. So who's with me? Let's Gooo! (Please send contributions to [email protected]).
• 1. Kevin, We Hardly Knew Ye. Since Lute Olson has been the coach at Arizona, rival Arizona State has struggled to beat them. Pretty much giving up, Sun Devils' fans have decided to switch from trying to cheer their team to trying as hard as possible to piss off Olson. In Tempe, it has included some pretty awful stuff, including chants of "Lute's a Dick" and "Where is Bobbi?" weeks after Lute lost his wife to cancer. To add insult to insult, Kevin Krueger — the Sun Devils' leading scorer last season — took advantage of the NCAA's new transfer rule and is now at UNLV playing for his Dad. — (Thanks to Benjamin S. Bacon).
• 2. Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport. Washington State's Thomas Abercrombie is from Auckland, New Zealand, where he earned three varsity letters in volleyball in high school. He also plays cricket.
• 3. Then Again, Who Didn't? UCLA's Luc Richard Mbah a Moute is a Cameroonian Prince, who made Adam Morrison cry in the NCAA Tournament. — (Thanks to Matt Duarte).
• 4. Touring The Pac-10. Joe Shipp played at Cal until 2003. His brother Josh Shipp then let down some Bears fans when he chose to attend UCLA in 2004. Now Jerren Shipp is a freshman playing at Arizona State. To make it even more confusing, their father, Joe, played football at USC. — (Thanks to Matt Duarte).
• 5. Double Vision. Are you a pair of athletic twins? We're pretty sure it's the law that you attend Stanford: Jarron and Jarrod Collins each played at Stanford and now play in the NBA. And this year Brook and Robin Lopez, two highly touted 7-foot centers, hope to continue their legacy. Additionally, there are a pair of twin female long distance runners at The Farm. — (Thanks to Matt Duarte).
