Former Samoan Rugby Manager Fined 100 Pigs For Bad Behavior
Tuala Mathew Vaea, manager of of the Manu Samoa rugby team, has been fined 100 pigs over allegations of bad behavior during the team's disappointing run in the Rugby World Cup. Vaea's hometown village council in Leauva announced the penalty last week.
Chief Sala Lose says that Vaea's actions "had tarnished the chiefly title bestowed on" the hometown hero. Here's more from the New Zealand Herald:
In a report to the Samoan Prime Minister last month, captain Mahonri Schwalger criticised Mr Vaea's behaviour during the tournament.
The report claimed Mr Vaea "did not want to be there at most times" and "spent most of his time drinking". It also said that he treated the World Cup like a holiday, and was often out playing golf.
Mr Vaea was also accused of not being around to present the jerseys before the team's final pool game against South Africa.
Samoa finished just third in their pool at the Cup, and Vaea lost his job as team manager soon after he returned to New Zealand. The 100 pigs will all be given to his village, Leauva, and are reportedly worth about $2,500 USD.
Elsewhere today, Rex Ryan can't believe his fucking luck.
H/T Timothy.
