Galaxy in need of quick fixes for matchup with Revolution

The LA Galaxy will try to get their season back on track when they host the New England Revolution on Saturday in Carson, Calif.

Since MLS play resumed after the World Cup break, the Galaxy (6-9-8, 26 points) are 1-4-3 and have fallen three points off the playoff line in the Western Conference, with three teams in front of them. LA has scored just six goals in those eight matches.

The Galaxy suffered a 3-1 road setback against San Diego FC on Saturday. Playing against his former team, Hirving Lozano fired home his first goal since joining the Galaxy on Aug. 7.

"We're getting on the same page, adapting to one another; we have very little time as well," Lozano said. "I think we're taking it step by step."

Scoring hasn't been a problem for New England (11-7-4, 37 points) lately. The Revs are fourth in the Eastern Conference table and 2-0-1 in their last three matches. In both wins, the Revs posted three goals, including last Sunday's 3-1 road victory over the Columbus Crew.

Matt Polster tallied an equalizer in the 32nd minute before Dor Turgeman gave New England the lead nine minutes later. Carles Gil tacked on an insurance goal in the 79th minute.

Gil leads the Revolution with eight goals and eight assists. New England coach Marko Mitrovic said he counts on the Spanish midfielder for more than just impressive statistics.

"People got used to him creating great numbers in terms of goals and assists," Mitrovic said. "But I have said many times, we aren't here to create great numbers for Carles, he is here to help us get numbers as a team."

Lozano could be the spark Los Angeles needs. He ripped off seven shots, four on target, against San Diego while playing all 90 minutes for the first time since joining the Galaxy.

"I still think he's working on building a connection ... with all the guys," Los Angeles coach Greg Vanney said. "It's a team that's coming together and needs to come together really fast."

This is the only meeting between the clubs this season.
