Galaxy transfer D Miki Yamane to Japanese club
LA Galaxy defender Miki Yamane (2) interrupts the dribble of Columbus Crew midfielder Taha Habroune (16) during the weather-delayed MLS match at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field in Columbus on April 22, 2026. The Los Angeles Galaxy announced the transfer of defender Miki Yamane to Japan's Urawa Red Diamonds on Sunday night.
Yamane, 32, joined the Galaxy from J1 League side Kawasaki Frontale in 2024 and helped the team claim its record sixth MLS Cup championship that season.
"He played an integral role in our 2024 MLS Cup championship run and has represented the Galaxy with tremendous class both on and off the field throughout his time with the club," general manager Will Kuntz said. "We are grateful for everything Miki has given to the Galaxy and wish him and his family all the best as he begins this next chapter of his career back in Japan."
The Japanese international appeared in 99 matches across all competitions, contributing one goal and 16 assists. He had one assist in 16 MLS matches (12 starts) this season.
