Georgia dismisses OL accused of fleeing police; up to 14 charges pending

Backup offensive lineman Nyier Daniels was dismissed by the University of Georgia following his arrest for allegedly fleeing police at speeds exceeding 150 mph with his younger siblings in his BMW.

Daniels is facing two felony counts of second-degree cruelty to children and two felony counts of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, along with 10 moving violations, for the incident in Commerce, Ga., that resulted in his arrest and a bond set at $21,000, according to the Jackson County Jail in Jefferson, Ga.

A four-star offensive tackle from Newark, N.J., Daniels is listed at 6-8, 345. He appeared in three games as a backup this season.

A University of Georgia athletic department official transported Daniels back to Commerce after he fled from police personnel in pursuit.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart confirmed Monday that Daniels was no longer with the team. He said he hasn't spoken to Daniels,

"Obviously he will no longer be with us," Smart said Monday.

The police incident report also cites Daniels' mother, Brandi Canada-Green, in the incident for running a stop sign.

Police had stopped Canada-Green in a Nissan Rogue when Daniels' BMW M5 passed going "at least 100 mph" in a 25 mph speed zone. Officers on the scene left Canada-Green and pursued Daniels' vehicle. Police said he was driving two younger siblings and evaded officers on Interstate 85 at an estimated speed over 150 mph.

In the report, police said Canada-Green was accused of impeding the pursuit of Daniels' vehicle. However, she reached her daughter, a passenger in Daniels' vehicle, and ordered them to "stop running from the police and bring their asses back to Commerce."
