Giants hire Michael Ghobrial as special teams boss

The New York Giants named Michael Ghobrial as their new special teams coordinator on Thursday.
Ghobrial will have a familiar commute to MetLife Stadium after spending the past three seasons as an assistant special teams coach with the co-tenant New York Jets.
Ghobrial, 35, was a special teams coordinator at the collegiate level for five seasons at Tarleton State (2016-17), Hawaii (2018-19) and Washington State (2020) before joining the Jets.
He replaces Thomas McGaughey, who was fired following a 6-11 season.
in 2023, the Jets led the league in kickoff coverage, allowing 15.3 yards per return. Greg Zuerlein made 35 of 38 field-goal attempts and rookie return specialist Xavier Gipson was second in the league with 23.2 yards per kick return.
