Giants stick with rookie QB Tommy DeVito at Washington
Nov 12, 2023; Arlington, Texas, USA; New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito (15) warms up before the game against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium. credits: Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito will start his second consecutive game, guiding the NFL's lowest-scoring offense in an NFC East matchup Sunday with the host Washington Commanders.
DeVito came out of last weekend's defeat at Dallas with a dinged right shoulder, but Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday that he's ready to go.
The undrafted rookie had two touchdown passes in a 41-17 loss to the Cowboys on Sunday in his first NFL start. It was just the third time this season the Giants scored multiple touchdowns.
The Giants (2-8) lost starting quarterback Daniel Jones to a season-ending ACL injury on Nov. 5 in the first half of a 30-6 loss at Las Vegas.
DeVito has three touchdowns and three interceptions this season. Daboll indicated after the Dallas game that the Giants are likely to ride with DeVito at Washington and Nov. 26 against New England before the bye week.
Tyrod Taylor is eligible to return from injured reserve following the bye.
Taylor ran sprints at the facility on Wednesday morning. He's still in the upramp phase of an eventual return from a rib injury.
Three players are not practicing on Wednesday due to concussion protocol: pass-rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux, wide receiver Jalin Hyatt and cornerback Adoree' Jackson. Right tackle Evan Neal (ankle) is also not practicing.
