H.S. Basketball Coach Resigns Amid Claims He Bit His Own Player's Face
Doyle Wolverton—the second-winningest coach in girls high school basketball—resigned as head coach of Leake Academy after allegedly biting his own player's face during a game Tuesday. Leake County, Miss. (not FL, amazingly) sheriff Greg Waggoner informed the Clarion-Ledger of the resignation, though Wolverton would not comment. Waggoner also said a deputy had a picture showing bite marks "consistent with a human."
The girl's father filed a report following last week's incident, but indicated he would not press charges.
According to the complaint, which was filed by Toby Thaggard of Carthage, Wolverton allegedly grabbed Thaggard's daughter, listed as the "victim" in the report, "by the shirt and then bit her on the right side of the face," as if he was getting on to her for making a bad play.

The report then states Thaggard took the victim, whose name was redacted in the complaint, to the emergency room, where deputies observed a "bruised bite mark on the lower right side of her face.
Leake Academy headmaster Jerry Crowe said the school would comment more on the matter Tuesday.
