HS Player Who Beat Opponent With Own Helmet Is In More Trouble
Joey Cominsky, the Hamburg (Penn.) quarterback who is facing a criminal investigation after striking an opposing player with his own helmet during a game earlier this month, is the subject of another video that shows him throwing footballs directly at a teammate.
The video, provided to the district attorney by the parent of a former player, aired on WFMZ-TV. It shows Cominsky, at the urging of coach Joe Sinkovich, firing footballs at the chest and stomach of a sitting player at full speed during a practice session.
The district attorney is investigating the new video, even as it continues to look into potential assault charges against Cominsky for the Sept. 6 incident. This latest video also raises questions about the coach.
“I think if the coaches would be held more accountable for what happened, this stuff wouldn’t happen on the field,” Hoagland said. “I hope the coach is reprimanded and not allowed to coach the boys anymore, put any more boys at risk or influence any more kids.”
Hamburg has remained silent about Cominsky's status. He sat out Friday's game, as per district rules for players who are ejected. But he's practicing with the team, and the school refuses to say if he'll play this weekend.
