Mandatory Credit: James Guillory-Imagn Images Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Charles Alexis Legault is recovering from surgery to repair lacerations to his hand from a skate blade, the team said Tuesday.
The 22-year-old rookie is expected to miss three to four months after a procedure to repair multiple torn extensor tendons on his right hand. He was placed on injured reserve.
Legault was hurt during Sunday's 5-4 road win against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Hurricanes thanked the Leafs' medical staff for their "swift and decisive assistance in the triage care following his injury."
His hand was sliced by one of Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson's skate blades during a scrum at the end of the first period.
Legault made his NHL debut on Oct. 20 versus Vegas and netted his first career goal on Saturday night against Buffalo. The 2023 fifth-round draft pick also has one assist, 10 penalty minutes, six blocks and nine hits in eight games.
