Mandatory Credit: David Kirouac-Imagn Images Carolina Hurricanes forward Taylor Hall signed a three-year, $9.5 million contract with the team on Wednesday.
The deal will begin next season for Hall, who is in the final campaign of a four-year, $24 million contract he signed with the Boston Bruins. The 2017-18 Hart Trophy recipient was in line to become an unrestricted free agent after this season.
Hall recorded 18 points (nine goals, nine assists) in 31 games with the Hurricanes after being acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks as part of the three-way trade with the Colorado Avalanche on Jan. 24.
Hall scored early in the second period on Tuesday in Carolina's 5-4 double-overtime victory over the New Jersey Devils. The win clinched the Eastern Conference first-round series in five games for the Hurricanes.
"Taylor has proven to be an outstanding fit for our team, and we are thrilled that he is excited to make Raleigh his home for another three seasons," Hurricanes general manager Eric Tulsky said. "He's been a solid veteran presence in the locker room and a difference maker on the ice."
Hall, 33, has 739 points (284 goals, 455 assists) in 909 career games with the Edmonton Oilers, Devils, Arizona Coyotes, Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins, Blackhawks and Hurricanes. He was selected by the Oilers with the top overall pick of the 2010 NHL Draft.
