Ignacio Buse, Arthur Fery to meet for Winston-Salem title

Third-seeded Ignacio Buse and fourth-seeded Arthur Fery advanced in distinct fashions on Friday and will meet in the Winston-Salem Open final on Saturday in North Carolina.

Buse, a 22-year-old from Peru, edged France's Benjamin Bonzi 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, while Fery advanced when Australia's James Duckworth had to retire in the second set. Fery led, 6-4, 1-2 when Duckworth could not continue due to an apparent right leg injury.

Buse, who is ranked 36th in the world, won his first career ATP Tour title in Hamburg, Germany, in May.

After Bonzi knotted the match at one set all, Buse accomplished a rare feat, winning all 12 points in his three service games in the decider. He broke Bonzi's serve to start the set and cruised to victory in 1 hour, 51 minutes.

Fery, a 24-year-old who calls London home, reached the Wimbledon semifinal as an unseeded wild-card entry. He is ranked one slot below Buse at No. 37.

Fery was able to break Duckworth's serve at 4-4 in the first set. Duckworth held for a 2-1 lead in the second set but then could not continue.

Both Buse, the No. 32 seed at the upcoming U.S. Open, and Fery will head to New York after the title match in Winston-Salem.
