Injured Casper Ruud, Arthur Fils withdraw from Wimbledon
May 28, 2025; Paris, FR; Casper Ruud of Norway returns a shot during his match against Nuno Borges of Portugal on day four at Roland Garros Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Susan Mullane-Imagn Images Casper Ruud and Arthur Fils, who sit Nos. 15 and 16 in the ATP rankings, withdrew from Wimbledon over the weekend due to their respective injuries.
Norwegian star Ruud is dealing with a knee injury and hasn't played since a second-round loss to Portugal's Nuno Borges at the French Open in May.
Ruud, who has been ranked as highly as No. 2 in the world, is a three-time Grand Slam finalist but Wimbledon has been his least successful Grand Slam. He has yet to make it out of the second round there.
Fils, the French up-and-comer with three ATP titles, cited a stress fracture in his back when he withdrew from Roland Garros after opening with two victories. That will force him to miss the third Grand Slam of the season, as well.
Fils' best showing at a Grand Slam was his run to the fourth round of Wimbledon last year.
China's Zhang Zhizhen also withdrew from Wimbledon, according to the ATP Tour. Zhang hasn't played since March due to a shoulder injury.
Fabio Fognini of Italy, Elmer Moller of Denmark and Lloyd Harris of South Africa entered the Wimbledon main draw in place of the trio of withdrawals.
