Ireland Lose U-17 Euros Match To Netherlands After Keeper Is Sent Off In Middle Of Shootout
Controversy struck at the U-17 Euros today as Irish keeper James Corcoran earned his second yellow card of the match during the penalty shootout of a match that finished full time tied 1-1, leading to the Netherlands to claim the win.
Referee Zbynek Proske booked Corcoran for the second time after the Irish keeper was alleged to have come early off his line while stopping Dutch shooter Daishawn Redan. Corcoran had earned a previous yellow for taking too long to play the ball in, leaving Ireland to place center back Oisín McEntee in goal to face Redan’s re-play—which, despite McEntee’s best efforts, became the winning goal.
