Italy's Camila Giorgi listed as retired on ITIA website
Camila Giorgi hasn't made any public proclamations, but she is listed as retired on the International Tennis Integrity Agency's website.
The website lists May 7 as Giorgi's retirement date.
It was certainly a surprise that the 32-year-old Italian wasn't playing in the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome. She also reportedly didn't enter the upcoming French Open.
Giorgi's most recent match was a second-round loss to top-ranked Iga Swiatek at the Miami Open in March.
Giorgi was just 3-6 in singles play this season.
According to the ITIA, a player who declares themselves as retired can't return to sanctioned events unless they make themselves available for out-of-competition drug testing for at least six months.
Giorgi has won four WTA singles crowns and more than $6.4 million in earnings. Her best Grand Slam performance was reaching the Wimbledon quarterfinals in 2018.
Her career-high ranking was No. 26 in October 2018. Giorgi was currently ranked 116th.
