Jets release former All-Pro WR Davante Adams
New York Jets wide receiver Davante Adams (17) and New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers (8) are shown as they get ready to step off the field at MetLife Stadium, Sunday January 5, 2025, in East Rutherford. The New York Jets have officially released Davante Adams, NFL Network reported on Tuesday afternoon, after multiple reports earlier that the team was moving on from the former All-Pro wide receiver.
The Jets, who reportedly tested Adams' trade value, will save $29.9 million in salary cap space, ESPN reported, with an $8.4 million dead cap hit.
Adams signed a five-year, $141.25 million contract extension through 2026 after he was traded from the Green Bay Packers to the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022. He has $72.5 million remaining for the next two seasons, but it is not guaranteed.
Adams, 32, joined former Packers' teammate Aaron Rodgers in New York after three games last season with the Raiders and started 11 games, catching 67 passes for 854 yards and seven touchdowns. The Jets released Rodgers last month.
Adams' total of 85 receptions for eight TDs and 1,063 yards in 14 games gave him at least 1,000 yards receiving for five consecutive seasons.
He has 957 career receptions for 11,844 yards and 103 touchdowns in 164 regular-season games (157 starts) for the Packers (2014-21), Raiders (2022-24) and Jets. Adams also has 72 receptions for 910 yards and eight TDs in 11 playoff games (10 starts).
Adams was selected to six Pro Bowls (2017-22) and is a three-time first-team All-Pro (2020-22).
The Packers selected Adams in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft out of Fresno State. They traded him to the Raiders in March 2022 for first- and second-round picks in 2022.
The Raiders dealt him to the Jets last Oct. 14 for a conditional 2025 third-round pick.
