"Hello friends and welcome to the 2012 Jim Nantz Wedding At Historic Pebble Beach Golf Links. Phil Simms will be with us in a few moments." This magnificent vista will host the marriage ceremony for Jim Nantz and Courtney Richards. It is the seventh hole at Pebble Beach and will make for some lovely wasting-time-not-at-the-cocktail-hour photo-ops.
If you'll recall, Nantz is a recent divorcee who was a part of some of the more depressing media coverage you're likely to find. A little less than three years later and everything's coming up Nantz-y. He's basking in the sunlight at Pebble Beach, surrounded by Arnold Palmer, Nick Faldo and the immortal Mike Francesa as he marries a women two decades his junior. Oh, and then the U.S. Open begins next week. Fear not, he'll make his honeymoon—the Open is on NBC.
It's hard not to feel a little inadequate next to Nantz and his engagement. The details of these nuptials read like a master class in one-upmanship, but the proposal is where he really brought the hammer.
Nantz, 53, proposed to Richards, 33, in 2010 while on vacation with his close friend, former President George H.W. Bush at the Bush family compound in Walker's Point Maine.
True story: I proposed to my wife over a bowl of spaghetti in our basement apartment. So, up yours, Nantz.
