Warren Foegele, Alex Laferriere and Anze Kopitar also scored, Phillip Danault had two assists and David Rittich made 26 saves for the Kings, who have won three in a row overall and 12 of their past 13 home games.
Adrian Kempe and Fiala converted their shootout chances for the Kings. Dallas' Jason Robertson missed his shootout attempt high and wide right, and Rittich saved Matt Duchene's backhand shot to end the game.
Duchene had two goals and an assist, Thomas Harley and Mavrik Bourque also scored and Jake Oettinger made 33 saves for the Stars, who have dropped two in a row following a five-game winning streak.
Fiala appeared to score with 37 seconds left in overtime, but a goaltender-interference review was initiated by the league and it was determined that Los Angeles defenseman Drew Doughty hindered Oettinger prior to the goal.
Dallas tied the score 3-3 at 6:53 of the third after Jamie Benn took a shot from the left circle off the rush that was saved by Rittich, but the rebound came out to the slot and Bourque was there to send it into the net.
The Stars took their first lead 4-3 at 9:41 when Duchene scored with a wrist shot from the inside edge of the left circle off a rush.
The Kings pulled level at 4-4 at 11:40 when Kempe's pass redirected off Kopitar's skate and across the goal line from just in front of the crease.
It was the 432nd goal of Kopitar's career, moving past Dave Taylor for third on franchise's all-time list.
Foegele gave the Kings a 1-0 lead after 11 seconds, tied for the third-fastest goal in team history. The tally came off a rebound into the slot.
Duchene scored with a wrist shot from above the left circle with two seconds left in the first period to tie the score 1-1.
Fiala recorded his fifth goal in the past three games to give the Kings a 2-1 lead at 8:16 of the second period. He lifted his shot between Lian Bichsel's legs from in close after the Dallas defenseman's stick broke.
The Stars answered at 9:29 of the middle period when Harley scored off a rebound to tie it 2-2.
The Kings quickly regained the lead. Oettinger lost track of a rebound off the end boards, and it came into the crease where Laferriere shoved it across the goal line at 11:43.
