Mandatory Credit: Rick Osentoski-Imagn Images Kevin McGonigle drove in three runs and the host Detroit Tigers won for the eighth time in 10 games, topping the Cleveland Guardians, 6-4, on Tuesday.
McGonigle had a two-run double and an RBI single, while Javier Baez scored two runs as the Tigers continued their push for a playoff berth.
Tigers All-Star outfielder Riley Greene left the game after the second inning with right hamstring tightness. Greene was hit by a pitch on his right leg during the inning but still scored from first on a Spencer Torkelson double.
Drew Anderson gave up one run and four hits in four innings as Detroit's starting pitcher. Jacob Waguespack (1-1) pitched two scoreless innings to notch the victory. Kenley Jansen escaped a ninth-inning jam for his 14th save.
Chase DeLauter had three hits, including a solo homer, for Cleveland. Jo Adell drove in two runs, including his first homer since he was acquired from the Los Angeles Angels at the trade deadline. Steven Kwan added two hits and scored twice.
Tanner Bibee (4-12) gave up six runs, five earned, and five hits in 6 1/3 innings.
The Tigers took the lead on Torkelson's double. The Guardians tied it in the third on DeLauter's 424-foot homer to right center.
Detroit scored three runs in the fifth. Max Clark and Baez had back-to-back singles and with two outs, McGonigle dropped a double down the right field line to score both runners. McGonigle then scored on Gleyber Torres' single.
A walk to Kwan and single by DeLauter, followed by a passed ball, put runners in scoring position in the seventh. Jose Ramirez knocked in Kwan with a groundout.
The Tigers made it 6-2 in the bottom of the inning. Baez and Zach McKinstry drew one-out walks.
Baez then tried to steal third and when Ramirez, playing third, misplayed the throw, Baez scored. McKinstry came home on McGonigle's single.
Adell homered in the eighth. Cleveland scored a run in the ninth on Adell's sacrifice fly. With runners in scoring position, Jansen induced a Travis Bazzana grounder to end the game.
