Mandatory Credit: Eric Hartline-Imagn Images The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired a 2027 fifth-round draft pick from the Ottawa Senators on Friday in exchange for the rights to goaltender Samuel Ersson.
It's a quick flip for the Leafs, who acquired Ersson on June 16 along with defenseman Emil Andrae and a 2026 third-rounder from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for goaltender Joseph Woll and defenseman Simon Benoit.
Ersson, 26, was 14-11-5 with a 3.12 goals-against average and an .870 save percentage in 2025-26. In four seasons with Philadelphia, he was 65-50-17 with seven shutouts, a 3.01 GAA and an .884 save percentage. In 2023-24, he finished 10th in the balloting for the Calder Trophy that goes to the NHL's Rookie of the Year.
