Liquid, MongolZ, FURIA, Falcons reach FISSURE Playground 2 semis

Team Liquid, The MongolZ, FURIA and Team Falcons secured their spots in the semifinals with victories Friday at the $500,000 Global Offensive FISSURE Playground No. 2 event in Belgrade, Serbia.

Liquid swept Aurora Gaming, who were undefeated and the No. 1 seed coming out of the Swiss Stage. Falcons and FURIA did the same to paiN Gaming and Astralis, respectively, while The MongolZ earned a 2-1 victory over G2 Esports to advance.

Sixteen teams started the event on Sept. 12, with the top eight advancing to the single-elimination playoffs that began Friday. The semifinal matchups are best-of-three, with Sunday's grand final being best-of-five. The winning team will take home $200,000, while the runners-up receive $100,000.

On Friday, Liquid won 13-9 on Mirage and 13-8 on Inferno, eliminating Aurora. Canadian Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken paced Liquid with 39 kills and a plus-16 kills-to-deaths differential.

Team Falcons prevailed 13-4 on Inferno and 13-6 on Ancient to knock out paiN. Nikola "NiKo" Kovac of Bosnia and Herzegovina had a match-high 36 kills for Falcons with a plus-15 differential.

FURIA topped Astralis 13-9 on Train and 19-15 in overtime on Nuke. Brazil's Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato led FURIA with 47 kills on a plus-11 K-D.

The MongolZ sandwiched a 13-11 win on Mirage and a 13-9 victory on Ancient around G2 Esports' 13-7 win on Dust II. Azbayar "Senzu" Munkhbold carried the all-Mongolian winning squad with 57 kills and a plus-15.
