Luciano Acosta scores 17 seconds into match as Cincinnati tops Orlando
Luciano Acosta scored his team-high fifth goal of the season just 17 seconds into the match -- the fastest goal in club history -- to lift FC Cincinnati over host Orlando City 1-0 on Saturday for their third straight win.
Acosta, the reigning MLS MVP, made good on Cincinnati's first chance. He ran down a long pass from DeAndre Yedlin, created space in the box and beat Orlando goalkeeper Pedro Gallese to give the visitors the early advantage.
In the 20th minute, Cincinnati appeared to have an opportunity to increase its lead. Yuya Kubo was taken down on a breakaway by Rodrigo Schlegel.
After a video review, Schlegel was given a red card after his foul was ruled as having prevented an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.
Cincinnati didn't capitalize on the player advantage, but Orlando didn't help its cause as it was held without a shot on goal in the first half. Wilder Cartagena appeared to have tied the score in the 68th minute, but the goal was disallowed due to an offside call.
Cincinnati was also limited to 10 players in the 78th minute as Bret Halsey received his second yellow card. Orlando couldn't capitalize as it lost its second straight and saw its winless streak reach three matches.
Dagur Dan Thorhallsson exited late in the first half for Orlando after suffering an apparent head injury.
