Ludvig Aberg (knee) WDs from Wells Fargo Championship
Swedish star Ludvig Aberg, the No. 6 player in the Official World Golf Ranking, has withdrawn from this week's Wells Fargo Championship citing a knee issue.
The $20 million signature event at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C., is PGA Tour players' final tune-up before the PGA Championship the following week.
"I was very excited to tee it up at Quail Hollow for the first time," Aberg said in a statement Monday. "Unfortunately, I'm dealing with a knee issue and after consulting with my doctors, we think it's best that I take some additional time to rest. I hope everyone has a great week and I look forward to teeing it up next week."
Aberg, 24, has played professionally for just 11 months since completing a strong collegiate career at Texas Tech and earning his card through the "PGA Tour University" pathway. In that time, he's made the European Ryder Cup team and won a tournament on both the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour.
He made his major debut at the Masters last month and finished solo second behind Scottie Scheffler.
As for Scheffler, the PGA Tour officially announced Monday that the World No. 1 was not in the field at Quail Hollow, as previous reports indicated. Scheffler and his wife Meredith Scheffler are awaiting the arrival of their first child.
