Luke Goode carries Indiana to OT win at Ohio State
Ohio State Buckeyes guard Micah Parrish (8) shoots the ball against Indiana Hoosiers forward Mackenzie Mgbako (21) in the first half at Value City Arena on Friday, Jan. 17, 2025 in Columbus, Ohio. Luke Goode's 3-pointer late in overtime, part of his career-high 23-point night, gave Indiana the lead for good in a 77-76 win over Ohio State on Friday in Columbus, Ohio.
The basket with 1:07 left was the last scoring by either team. After Ohio State's John Mobley Jr. missed a 3-point attempt, the Hoosiers turned the ball over on a clock violation with 15.5 seconds left.
Mobley's subsequent shot was blocked by Anthony Leal, but Bruce Thornton got the offensive rebound. Thornton's 3-point attempt went in and out at the buzzer as the Buckeyes (10-8, 2-5 Big Ten) lost their third straight game and fell for the fourth time in five games.
Oumar Ballo had 21 points and Kanaan Caryle put up 13 for the Hoosiers (14-5, 5-3), who were coming off back-to-back 25-point losses to Iowa and Illinois.
Mobley had 22 points, Micah Parrish 19 and Thornton 18 for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State staged a frenetic comeback from a 10-point deficit with four minutes left in regulation to send the game to overtime at 71-all.
Mobley hit the 3-pointer straight on from well above the arc with 38 seconds left to tie it. The Hoosiers missed three short shots with around 10 seconds to go before Evan Mahaffey at the other end couldn't get a layup to fall at the buzzer.
Indiana, which faced a six-point halftime deficit, was ahead 59-58 after the Hoosiers ran off nine unanswered points at the end of a 14-3 run to make it 68-58 with 5:12 remaining. Capping that surge, Goode, a senior forward, made a soft jumper to give him 20 points, bettering his previous best of 18 points established against Sam Houston State last month.
The Buckeyes finally ended the skid when Mobley made a three-pointer to start a rally that saw the Buckeyes pull to within 71-68 with two minutes to play before Mobley connected with the tying bucket.
Ohio State was absent its second leading scorer Devin Royal (13.8 points per game), who was ruled out before the game because of a sprained wrist.
