Mandatory Credit: Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports Craig Berube, the new head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, completed his coaching staff with the hiring of assistant Marc Savard, the team announced Sunday.
Savard, 46, was an assistant coach with the Calgary Flames last season. He began his coaching career with the St. Louis Blues in 2019-20 before becoming head coach of the Ontario Hockey League's Windsor Spitfires, who were 88-35-8-5 in his two seasons and reached the league finals in 2022.
A two-time All-Star forward (2008, 2009) during a 13-year NHL career, Savard played in 807 regular-season games and 25 playoff contests with the New York Rangers (1997-99), Flames (1999-2002), Atlanta Thrashers (2002-06) and Boston Bruins (2006-11). He totaled 207 goals and 499 assists in the regular season, and eight goals and 14 assists in 25 playoff games, all with Boston.
Berube replaced Sheldon Keefe, who was fired after the Maple Leafs finished the regular season with a 46-26-10 record but lost to the Bruins in the first round of the playoffs in seven games.
The staff for the upcoming season now includes associate coach Lane Lambert, assistant Mike Van Ryn, goaltending coach Curtis Sanford and video coaches Jordan Bean and Sam Kim.
