Mandatory Credit: Steven Bisig-Imagn Images Seattle Mariners star outfielder Julio Rodriguez was activated from the 7-day concussion injured list Saturday and was in the starting lineup as the designated hitter against the San Francisco Giants.
Rodriguez had been out since leaving a game on July 2 vs. the Los Angeles Angels after he was struck in the back of his head by a thrown ball while running to second base. The 25-year-old three-time All-Star missed 10 games in the intervening two weeks, which included the All-Star break.
At the time of the injury, Rodriguez had an eight-game on-base streak, batting .414 with three RBIs, two stolen bases and three walks. For the season, he entered Saturday hitting .259 with 14 home runs, 40 RBIs and 12 stolen bases in 87 games.
The Mariners went 3-7 during Rodriguez's absence and are 48-50 overall going into Saturday's action. They are in second place in the American League West standings, a game and a half behind the Texas Rangers.
In a corresponding move, utility player Miles Mastrobuoni was designated for assignment. In 13 games this season, he has a .192 average, three runs and one RBI.
