Seattle designated hitter Julio Rodriguez left the Mariners' Wednesday road game against the Detroit Tigers in the eighth inning for a pinch runner after he appeared to aggravate a right ankle injury.
Rodriguez grimaced after getting out of the way of an inside pitch from reliever Will Vest. He was able to bloop a bases-loaded RBI single before departing.
Rodriguez came off the 10-day injured list on Sunday after he recovered from a high right ankle sprain that occurred July 21 against the Houston Astros. Normally a center fielder, he has been serving as the team's designated hitter since his return.
Rodriguez had two hits in the Wednesday game, which Detroit won 3-2 in 10 innings, and he has three hits in the three games since he returned.
