Mandatory Credit: John Froschauer-USA TODAY Sports Seattle Mariners center fielder Julio Rodriguez is day-to-day after leaving Sunday's game vs. the Astros in the sixth inning with a right ankle sprain.
Rodriguez, 23, crashed into the outfield wall trying to track down a triple by Houston's Yordan Alvarez. Rodriguez initially had the ball in his glove, but it popped out as he hit the wall. Rodriguez crumpled to the warning track and immediately grabbed his ankle.
A Mariners trainer and manager Scott Servais rushed out to attend to Rodriguez, who was able to walk off the field on his own with a slight limp.
Servais told reporters after the game that X-rays were negative and Rodriguez was dealing with "a little bit of an ankle sprain."
Houston scored on the play Rodriguez was hurt on, but the Mariners went on to win 6-4 to avoid a sweep in the three-game series.
Rodriguez finished his day 0-for-3, lowering his season batting average to .263. A year after racking up 103 RBIs and 32 home runs, Rodriguez has just 37 and 11 in those respective categories in 2024.
