Mariners, OF Victor Robles agree to 2-year extension
Seattle Mariners center fielder Victor Robles (10) reacts to hitting a single against the Detroit Tigers during the first inning at T-Mobile Park. The Seattle Mariners and outfielder Victor Robles have agreed on a two-year contract extension through the 2026 season.
The deal is for $9.75 million and includes a $9 million team option for the 2027 season and $2 million in bonuses and escalators, according to ESPN.
The deal is a reward for the recent turnaround Robles has made since joining the Mariners in early June. Robles was designated for assignment by the Washington Nationals in late May after missing more than a month with a strained left hamstring then struggling (3-for-23 at the plate) in his first 10 games after returning.
Robles has been a key producer in the Mariners' (63-56) playoff push, hitting .303 with 15 runs and 12 stolen bases in 42 games with the Mariners, showing solid outfield defense in the process.
Robles had a breakout season with the Nationals in 2019, hitting .255 with 17 homers, 65 RBIs and 28 steals, finishing sixth in the National League Rookie of the Year voting. But his production declined in 2020, and he has hit just 14 home runs since 2019.
The Mariners now have Robles, newly acquired Randy Arozarena and two-time All-Star and 2022 Rookie of the Year Julio Rodriguez set to man the three outfield positions through at least 2026.
